Connective Tissue Matrix Modification Research Laboratory

Welcome

The Connective Tissue Matrix Modification Research Laboratory (CTMMRL) is affiliated with the Biomedical Engineering Department and is located on the University of Kentucky Coldstream Research Campus.

Our academic/industry collaborative research program focuses on the biomechanics and biochemistry of protein (collagen) crosslinking and on the translational aspects of direct chemical modification of collagenous connective tissues. Specific application areas currently being explored include spinal disc degeneration, spinal deformity, knee meniscus, Achilles tendon, and rotator cufftears, equine upper airway breathing disorders (DDSP), and tissue collapsibility (soft palate) in snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Clinical trials are currently being conducted for novel treatments of chronic low back pain in humans and upper airway breathing disorders in horses.
